One of Those Days

Salad

It was one of those days.  Figures too, seeing as February 29th is a ‘fake’ day in my book anyway.  Good thing there won’t be another leap year until 2016 On my way to work, I couldn’t help feeling like I had forgotten something.  Now, if you know me, then you know that I am a compulsive planner.  I have lists and calendars that plan out my free time and am constantly thinking ahead.  When I’m at the gym, I’m thinking about what I need to do when I get home to get ready for work, when I’m getting ready … Continue reading

Weekend at Home

Snow1

Hola!  How has everyone been? Sorry that I’ve been MIA, but it’s been for a good reason.  Promise.  We’ll get to that later. First, I wanted to update you on the fantastic weekend that I had.  It was my Mom’s birthday this past weekend (Happy Birthday Mom. Again), so the Hubs, Stormy and I packed up and headed to Central Pennsylvania to visit the rents. Friday morning, I made oatmeal sans peanut butter and snacked on a salad for lunch. Then we started the long haul from NYC to Central Pennsylvania.  Gotta love road trips. Hubs and I decided to … Continue reading

Fat Tuesday and Peanut Butter Woes

Peanut-Butter-Glory

Every year I give up something for lent.  Usually, that ‘something’ is diet soda, but seeing as how I’ve already minimized my consumption of artificial sweeteners, that didn’t really seem fair. I toyed around with a couple of ideas: desserts; coffee; seltzer water; frozen yogurt.  In the end I decided to give up something that is going to take A LOT of WILL POWER. Peanut butter.  Eeeeeep!  And after posting what I was giving up on Facebook and receiving many suggestions for alternatives (like almond butter), I decided that I was not going to take the easy way out and … Continue reading

Adventures in Vermont

MeView

Hello, friends. How was your President’s Day Weekend?  Were you lucky enough to have a day off from work? Hubs and I had a very adventurous, active, fun and food-filled weekend in Vermont. Before heading to Vermont with friends on Friday night, I worked from home for a bit. I had to work from home because I had a filling that cracked and I needed to get some dental work done in the afternoon Before starting work, I made a quick batch of oatmeal with banana and peanut butter, before heading out for a nice 4-mile run. After my dentist … Continue reading

Shabbott’s Habits: The BIG wrap-up

WOW!  What a year it has been.  On February 9, 2011, I set out to form 13 healthy habits over the course of one year.  Today I’m wrapping up my big project by writing a summary of my experience. I’ve always been interested in healthy living.  In high school I was involved with cheerleading and gymnastics, and in college I was honored to be a part of the Penn State Cheerleading Squad for 4 years.   Cheering at Penn State was an experience that I am so thankful for.  Not only did I get to experience the University at a … Continue reading

Happy Valentine’s Day

Ravioloi

I hope that everyone had a wonderful, love-filled Valentine’s Day. I certainly did My Valentine’s Day was appropriately filled with lots of RED and a little bit of chocolate. RED strawberries for breakfast.  Topped with yogurt, then vanilla. RED tomato soup for lunch. A little Godiva chocolate (x 2) that found it’s way to my desk.  Back off elephant! For dinner, the Hubs and I decided to cross Arthur Ave in the Bronx (the REAL Little Italy) off the NYC Bucket List, so we headed to Roberto, which got rave reviews on Yelp. source The restaurant was dimly lit with … Continue reading
