Hello, friends.
How was your President’s Day Weekend? Were you lucky enough to have a day off from work?
Hubs and I had a very adventurous, active, fun and food-filled weekend in Vermont.
Before heading to Vermont with friends on Friday night, I worked from home for a bit. I had to work from home because I had a filling that cracked and I needed to get some dental work done in the afternoon
Before starting work, I made a quick batch of oatmeal with banana and peanut butter, before heading out for a nice 4-mile run.

After my dentist appointment, I wasn’t up for eating too much (I was pretty numb), so I picked up the Hubs to get a move on it up to Vermont for our ski trip to Killington!
After my novocaine wore off I snacked on a granola bar that I found hiding in my glove box
About 4 hours into our road trip, we decided to stop off and have some dinner in Ludlow, VT, which is home to the Okemo Ski Resort. Our friends, Dave and Abi, who were traveling with us heard that Panarello’s was a great spot for some casual Italian. Given that we were planning on hitting the slopes hard the next day, we all agreed that some carb-loading wouldn’t hurt.
I ordered the penne a la vodka, which was huuuuuuge, but delicious. I wish that I would have known that my hotel room had a mini-fridge, because I would have taken my leftovers!
Tiramisu was split for dessert. Panarello’s made their tiramisu with coffee liquor instead of espresso, which gave it a much more subtle coffee flavor. I liked it, but I missed the espresso!
After dinner we made our way to our hotel – The Inn of the Six Mountains – which was located about a half mile from the Killington entrance. That’s our Inn on the corner.

There were some great views of the mountain in the distance (although we didn’t know it yet, because it was 10:30 pm when we arrived).
Overall we were really pleased with our hotel. It was a little out-dated (think blue bathroom), but it was clean and they had decent amenities.
As soon as we got settled we crashed so that we could be ready for a full day of skiing the next day.
Pre-ski breakfast of champions courtesy of our hotel’s complimentary buffet: eggs, breakfast potatoes and a pancake (I only ate one).
One of the unique things about Killington, is that they have a gondola lift. The gondola is basically a little pod that you sit in that is sheltered from the wind and the cold.
Chris and Dave enjoyed the ride.
If you didn’t take the gondola, then there were the standard lifts. On the way up…
The views at Killington were amazing! We had some fun taking photos before getting our ski on.
Around lunch time we took a break from the cold. I grabbed some chili in a bread bowl and a hot cocoa to warm me up.
Then it was back to the slopes.

After a full day of skiing we decided to hang out in our hotel’s hot tub before hitting a well-known dinner spot on the mountain: The Wobbly Barn!
Seriously, everywhere you would go, there were advertisements for this place.
Of course, there was a wait, so we hit up the bar for a couple of Magic Hat #9′s before dinner.

When we were seated we all decided on steaks, so we put in an order for a bottle of red wine to compliment our meals.
One of the great things about The Wobbly Barn was the all-you-can-eat salad bar. I loaded up my plate with some veggies, ciabatta bread and sunflower seeds (I love sunflower seeds on salad).
For my entree I ordered the filet mignon with a baked potato. The steak was cooked perfectly and was so juicy. It was just what I needed after a long day on the slopes.
We split the chocolate chip ice cream for dessert, but I guess that we all ate it so fast that I forgot to take a photo
After dinner, we were incredibly tired, so we headed back to the hotel to get some sleep.
Sunday morning we slept in a bit and enjoyed our hotel before meeting for a late breakfast at Sugar and Spice, complete with real Vermont maple syrup.

Sugar and Spice was a cute little spot that was recommended to us. They make their own in-house syrup.
This place was bumping!
As soon as I saw the menu I knew that I wanted to the pumpkin pancakes.
And they were sooooooooo good! I also had a small side of home fries and a couple cups of coffee.
After breakfast, we started the long haul back home. Thankfully, we had eaten so late and so much, that we didn’t need lunch. We drove through Vermont, New Hampshire and into Connecticut, where we stopped off at the Hubs’s rents place.
We decided to stay and visit the family, ordered pizza for dinner, and enjoyed a movie together.
It was a fantastic Holiday weekend!
And now I seriously feel like I need a detox

It looks like you had a fun time in Vermont! I’m sorry your filling cracked and I’m SO impressed that you went for a run BEFORE you had it fixed – you are a hero!
I have always wanted to visit Vermont, and this post just increased that yearning. What a fabulous weekend you had and so much fantastic food! I love seeking out new restaurants when I travel and you found some gems!
Great post. I’m from Springfield, VT which is about 18 to 20 miles from Ludlow, VT. You’re right, the view is amazing. Vermont is so beautiful. Thanks for the walk down memory lane.
