Have you ever made a New Years resolution to be “healthy” or “healthier”?
Well, I certainly have. And although I consider myself to be a generally healthy person, there are definitely some things that I could work on. However, every year I resolve to make drastic changes to my lifestyle, I end up losing track of all the health initiatives I planned to implement, and become frustrated or throw in the towel when I fail to change my life in one day.
That’s why I’m bagging the idea of becoming a healthier person in one day, week or even a month. Instead of diets, failed resolutions, lofty fitness plans and promises of “starting tomorrow,” I’m committing to building a healthier lifestyle today and everyday by forming a set of healthy habits over the course of one year.
Form 13 healthy habits over the course of 1 year.
“They say it takes 21 days to form a habit. I say give yourself 28.”
Hey, why not make sure that it really sets in? That works out to be 13 healthy habits formed over the course of 364 days, with 1 day to reflect on it all!
Read THE SUMMARY here.
My goal is to form healthy habits that stick for good – not just a few days, weeks or months!
I form habits one at a time. I devote 28 days to each habit – 21 days to form the habit, then another 7 to make sure that it really sets in [VIEW ALL 13 HABITS].
When one goal is met, I move on to another, in hopes of progressively building healthy habits that stick for good! That’s why you’ll see that I’m maintaining some habits (where the goal has already been met), while focusing exclusively on the current habit.
At Shabbott’s Habits you can follow my quest to form new healthy habits, with added tidbits about what I’m eating, how I’m feeling, what I’m cooking, exercise, etc.
So, welcome and enjoy! I hope you follow me on my quest for healthier living.

Hey Brit,
This is great! I drink 1/2 my body weight of purified water in oz. every day. I’ve been doing it for a year now, and I have to tell you, I feel so much better. Great job! I will try to keep up with what you are doing.
Thanks Rhonda! One thing that I did learn was that I need to drink the water earlier in the day. Lots of water = lots of getting up in the middle of the night to use the bathroom…lol.
Along with every thing which seems to be building inside this specific subject material, many of your viewpoints tend to be somewhat radical. Nonetheless, I beg your pardon, because I can not give credence to your entire idea, all be it stimulating none the less. It seems to me that your remarks are not entirely rationalized and in reality you are your self not really fully convinced of your argument. In any case I did appreciate reading through it.
Interesting comment…I don’t really consider my ideas ‘radical.’ Instead, I am simply taking small progressive steps toward healthier living. The habits I am trying to form are what work for me and they may not work for everyone; I am not a nutrition or fitness professional, although I do try and base my posts on information that I have researched.
Glad you commented on my blog – it seems we have a similar lifestyle. I’m excited to read about your new habits.
i like this topic , enjoyed this one thanks for putting up.
i would like to start my very own blog eventually. this was a really nice blog that you simply made here
this really is this kind of a great useful resource that you’re delivering and you also give it away without cost
Interesting post on Chia seeds. Now that you know about them, I’ll bet they end up in a bunch more of your recipes!
where are you from originally??
Originally I’m from Central PA. I attended undergraduate and graduate school at Penn State University – also in Central PA. I moved to NYC two years ago when I accepted a job at the Columbia University Medical Center.
I think your idea of establishing a healthy habit in 21 (28) days is a great and unique way to establish a healthy lifestyle. My husband and I are also from PA and attended PSU. He was a nutrition science major and seems to be impressed by many of your recipes that I make. Thanks for a great blog with valuable info.
Thank you so much for visiting my blog and for the kind words. I really do believe that a healthy lifestyle is built over time by forming healthy and long-lasting habits. Its nice to hear that other people are on board with the idea too.
Great find here! Love your idea…can’t wait to read more. May implement some of your habits into my own life and blog. May I add you to my Happy Place(s) ?

I came across your website a couple days ago and think it’s great! My boyfriend and I have attempted to live a healthier lifestyle this past year and it has not always been easy. Stumbling across your blogs have been very motivating and informative. I’m thinking of new ways to mix up workouts at the gym and new recipes/ingredients to include to create a permanent healthier lifestyle! Thanks
.
Hi Jamie, thanks so much for stopping by – I’m glad that you like the blog. Healthy living blogs are such a great resource when you’re looking to revamp your healthy lifestyle. I got started reading healthy living blogs and eventually was inspired to start my own. Good luck w/the workout mix-up and recipes! Stop by again soon.
Hi there! I just sent you an email about the cookie swap & I wanted to make sure you got it. Please write me back ASAP! Thanks!
Hi Britne
I just stumbled across your blog and wanted to say hello.
The premise of your blog is a great idea and its clearly something you are really passionate about.
I am a BodyTalk practitioner in New York and wanted to invite you to take a look at my site http://www.bodywisebrooklyn.com
I work with a lot of clients who want to be healthier and happier but have a hard time finding where to start, how to know if what they are doing is the right thing, and how to stay motivated.
BodyTalk sessions are a great way to know exactly what your body is working on, what it needs, and what habits you can develop to help your body stay healthy, or even heal a current dis-ease.
I’d love to connect further with you if you are interested. I think the readers of your blog would find BodyTalk to be a helpful tool to have with them in the process of setting their healthy habits!
Looking forward to hearing from you.
Warmly,
Emily Suggs. CBP
