Don’t Drink Yourself Fat
You may remember that a while back I embarked on a health journey to reduce the empty calories in my diet. This included sugary drinks like juices and soda, in addition to alcoholic beverages. Now, The New York City Department of Health is launching their own anti sugary drink campaign, called “Pouring on the Pounds.” Seeing as this is a subject that is near and dear to me, I quickly headed over to their website to check it out. Some of the information on the site is quite alarming: 1 sugar-sweetened soda contains more than twice the daily recommended maximum … Continue reading
Monday and Tuesday by iPhone
Catching ya up on my Monday and Tuesday. And, I’m blogging by iPhone! How Fun! Monday in brief: Breakfast – freshly picked apple warmed in the microwave, then topped with cinnamon and granola (this is my version of ‘healthy’ apple crisp). Lunch – turkey and cheese sandwich with tomatoes and lettuce. Plus, veggies on the side for crunching. Snackage – peanuts! Dinner – leftover Britne’s Best Chili Ever. _______________________________________________________ Current Shabbott’s Habit: Bye-bye artificial sweeteners Stayed away from the stuff _______________________________________________________ Shabbott’s Habits already met: 1. Drink more water – finished March 9 & still going ~ 70 oz 2. Move it … Continue reading

As I was getting ready for my daily post, I realized that I missed something. I’ve already finished my latest Shabbott’s Habit: Empty Out Empty Calories! Whoa, whoa, whoa – did those 28 days go by fast or what? So, while I’m writing this post on September 1, I should have written it on August 29, which means that I missed August 30 and 31st of my new Shabbott’s Habit: Take Your Vitamins Luckily for me, I actually remembered to take my multi-vitamin these last few days, so we’re all good But back to “Empty Out Empty Calories.” This was … Continue reading

Neopolibanana
Neopolitan ice cream? Nope. That’s Neopolibanana. Let me explain. You see, I love ice cream. In fact, when I was younger, I was known as “the ice cream kid.” Every night I would sit in a miniature blue chair watching my favorite TV shows with a little scoop of ice cream. Fast forward 25 years. While I’d love to eat ice cream everyday – and by ice cream I mean Neopolitan (hey why have one flavor when you can have three?) – I recognize that it might not be the best daily snack. So, I decided to come up with … Continue reading
Orange you glad…
Knock knock. Who’s there? Banana. Banana who? Knock knock. Who’s there? Banana. Banana who? Knock knock. Who’s there? Orange. Orange who? Orange you glad I didn’t say banana? Does this joke bring back childhood memories? It does for me. And I couldn’t help thinking about it today when I ate lunch, which was completely over-run by orange vegetables: carrots and orange bell peppers, served with hummus for dipping. The other half of my lunch consisted of a lavash wrap with melty cheese and corn salsa. But back to orange foods – a quick Google search revealed the health benefits of … Continue reading
Pizza Overload Weekend
*First let me begin by saying that I’m thankful that Hurricane Irene didn’t cause too much trouble for us in NYC. My thoughts and prayers are with those that were less fortunate. That being said, the weekend was filled with the hustle and bustle of storm preparation, a quick trip to the in-laws in CT, cookie baking and waaaaaay too much pizza. If one can, in fact, could ever have too much pizza FRIDAY Friday morning and afternoon looked like most work days on the blog. Strawberries, banana, granola and yogurt for breakfast and a turkey sandwich with cheese, lettuce … Continue reading
