Quick Trip
Hi friends. How was your weekend? Mine was great, since it included a quick trip home to Clearfield, PA to visit my parents and to drop-off a certain pretty little lady. My mom is puppy-watching while Hubs and I are on vacation. And we leave Friday, by the way (insert: cries of joy). Did I mention that I’m going on vacation? To St. John in the Virgin Islands? Be jealous Saturday morning, the Hubs and I made our favorite Cinnamon Apple Crepes so that I would have a full belly to get me through the drive to PA. Unfortunately, Hubs … Continue reading

The Good and Bad News
The Good News? After three years of being denied entry to the NYC Marathon, I finally claimed a guaranteed spot for 2012. The Bad News? My frickin’ foot and ankle still hurt following the NYC Half Marathon. I gave the foot a quick test on the treadmill this morning after not running for 2.5 weeks and after about 10 steps: pain. I immediately stopped, of course The pain is on the inside of my ankle right above the bone, where my posterior tibialis runs. I also feel as though my mechanics have changed. Like I’m running more on the inside … Continue reading

Pat Yourself on the Back
Today I am patting myself on the back I finally managed to drag my butt out of bed early enough to get to spin class and secure a bike. You see, unfortunately there are at least 30 dedicated 6 am spinners that go to my gym and they can get a little crazy about getting a bike. This means that if you want to spin, you should arrive to class by 5:40 am at the latest, or else you’ll be huffing and puffing with anger sans bike like I was last week. Oh yeah, and I live 15 minutes away … Continue reading
Overcoming The No Run Slump
I’m officially off the high that I got from being able to run the NYC Marathon on Saturday. If you’ve been following, then you know that I recently suffered a posterior tibial tendon injury and was rehabbing with hopes to run the race with my family. Luckily for me, it worked out in the short term. Now that the race is over, I’m slowing coming to terms with the long lasting effects of this injury. Simply put, I need to rest my foot in order for it to heal. In other words, I need to stop running. This is not … Continue reading

NYC Half Marathon Recap
The BIG question answered: Did I run the NYC Half Marathon? YES! The smaller question: Did I run the NYC Half Marathon pain free? Well, No. But that’s okay. After spending some quality time with my family on Friday and Saturday night, I was up bright and early to get ready for the race. Usually I have a peanut butter and jelly sandwich for a pre-race meal, but seeing as I gave up peanut butter for lent, that wasn’t really an option. I settled for a Clif Mojo bar instead and that seemed to work just fine. When we got … Continue reading

Iontophoretic Patch
Another day another PT session for my posterior tibial tendonitis. This one was at 7 am I actually managed to drag my butt out of bed at 5 am so that I could hit the pool at the gym for a quick 1-mile morning swim. The pressure of the water feels great on my foot and the kicking really seems to loosen up my ankle joint. My physical therapy session looked much like yesterday. Now, about that anti-inflammatory patch that my PT places over my posterior tibial tendon. This Iontophoretic Patch is pretty nifty. Dexamethasone (the anti-inflammatory) is applied to … Continue reading
