Julia Child Night

IMG_9290

When my foodie friend, Anna, and I decided to devote an entire afternoon to cooking some traditional French recipes, there was one person that instantly came to mind: Julia Child.  And so, “Julia Child Night,” was born. Famous for bringing French cuisine to America and for her bestselling cookbook, Mastering the Art of French Cooking, a young Julia Child defied all-odds by attending the prestigious Le Cordon Bleu French Cooking School and starting the ‘School of the Three Food Lovers.’  She excelled at cooking and teaching her acquired skills to others. Her cooking show, The French Chef, was an instant … Continue reading

Brunch for Bride

Raspberry-champagne

It seems like I’ve been so busy this summer that all of my posts have been delayed. This Friday and Saturday were no exception, because both days were jam-packed! Friday night I spent the evening cleaning my apartment and prepping brunch for the next day.  My best friend, Abi, who we threw a tea-party themed bridal shower for last weekend, was having her wedding hair and makeup trial on Saturday afternoon.  Her stylists live in Queens and Long Island; she lives an hour and a half into Connecticut.  So, I bet you can guess where she did her trial-run….yep – … Continue reading

Real Connecticut Maple Syrup

Syrup-bottled

Today we spent the day at the Hubs’s family farm in Guilford, CT.  They make their own maple syrup, and today we were lucky enough to be a part of the process. You start with maple trees and there are plenty on the farm. Holes are drilled into the trunks of the maple trees and each hole is fit with a maple tap. Each tree has anywhere from one to four taps.  There are roughly 50-60 trees harvested on the farm and a total of 150 maple taps.  Below the taps are collection pails, and each pail has a cover … Continue reading
