Say Yes To Fruits and Veggies Habit Complete
Fruits and vegetables are good for us. Right? Right. In fact, if asked, most people would likely list “eating enough fruits and vegetables” as a simple way to improve ones health. Then why do so many Americans fail to get even half of the recommended dose of fruits/veggies? In fact, there are people who don’t eat any fruits and vegetables [gasp] in a given day – and NO french fries do NOT count. In recognizing the importance of fruits and vegetables in my diet, I decided to practice what I preach by – “Saying YES to Fruits and Veggies” – … Continue reading
Hubs Grills
Yesterday was a BEAUTIFUL day in the City, so I called the Hubs out on Facebook in hopes of inspiring some man-grilling. When I got home from work, I was happy to see that the Hubs got the message. Kebabs! Or as my very mature husband likes to say – Keboobs Munchies while the Hubs grilled. Crumbled pita-chip fragments from the bottom of the bag – love these crunchy little bits. Dinner a-la-Hubs was skewered beef, veggies (onions, bell peppers, tomatoes; 1 C serving veg) and pineapple (0.5 C serving fruit), over couscous. And corn on the cob, grilled right … Continue reading

Blend Away
If you’re a frequent reader of this blog, then you know that I love fruit smoothies. I often hit up Smoothie King for their Green Tea Tango or create my own smoothies at home. You can imagine my disappointment then, when our trusty KitchenAid blender of almost 6-years broke down Luckily for me, the Hubs surprised me with a brand new blender this week. While we would both love to splurge and buy a Vitamix, KitchenAid’s new and improved blender fit the bill. In fact, this blender is better than the previous model: it packs much more power, the blade … Continue reading
Friday Saturday
Here’s a little combined Friday and Saturday post for ya’ll (Sorry, I just watched Paula Dean and I couldn’t resist). FRIDAY: Friday morning started out with a killer oh-so-sweaty workout. I’ve started to incorporate stabilization and core into my normal lifting routine and this added exertion has me sweating bullets at the gym. I always say that I’m not there to look cute – I’m not one of those cutesy matchy-matchy workout outfits kinda gal. But I’ve seriously been a hot sweaty mess lately and I wonder what people think of me. 60 minutes elliptical Tricep/Bicep exercises Breakfast Friday morning … Continue reading
Feeling better
As I mentioned yesterday, I’ve been feeling a little under the weather. I don’t know if I was actually sick or if I simply had post-vacation blues, but I took the day off from the gym to nab a little extra shut-eye. I’m feeling much better now. Revived! Breakfast this morning was a big bowl of fresh strawberries (1.5 C serving fruit) with yogurt and raw oats. If you haven’t tried raw oats as a topping, you really should. Their flavor is hard to explain, but is slightly doughy. Almost like a raw cookie dough – and who doesn’t like … Continue reading
Recipe Mix Up
Something unexpected happened today. I saw a recipe for Bran Flax Muffins on the back of my Bob’s Red Mill package of flax meal and decided that I would make the muffins to share with all of you today. I organized the ingredients, preheated the oven, snapped a bunch of step-by-step photos and baked. Then I tasted them. They’re meh. Not bad. Not great. Because, as the Hubs said “they don’t really taste like anything.” Then I made dinner using a vegetable that I had never cooked with before – Kabocha Squash (wiki it). This round green veggie is sometimes … Continue reading
