Hubs Grills

Kabobs-cooked

Yesterday was a BEAUTIFUL day in the City, so I called the Hubs out on Facebook in hopes of inspiring some man-grilling. When I got home from work, I was happy to see that the Hubs got the message. Kebabs!  Or as my very mature husband likes to say – Keboobs Munchies while the Hubs grilled.  Crumbled pita-chip fragments from the bottom of the bag – love these crunchy little bits. Dinner a-la-Hubs was skewered beef, veggies (onions, bell peppers, tomatoes; 1 C serving veg) and pineapple (0.5 C serving fruit), over couscous. And corn on the cob, grilled right … Continue reading

Ankle Update

Sprained ankle is on your left.

On April 10, I set out to run a 9-miler on my favorite running path.  Shortly into the run, I tripped over a tree limb and took a nasty spill.  It was only after I peeled myself off the ground that I realized that I sprained my ankle. I was devastated. Now, it’s hard to believe that it has been just over a month since my injury. While my ankle isn’t 100% better, I’m definitely on the road to recovery.  Much of the swelling has gone down, although you can still tell just by looking, which ankle was injured. Giving … Continue reading

How To Rehab An Ankle Sprain

Easy-fruit-sorbet

As you probably remember, I sprained my ankle on Sunday. After talking with several physician and physical therapist friends, I’ve determined that my ankle sprain is probably on the higher end of the Grade 1 sprains. What is a Grade 1 ankle sprain? Stretching and or minor tearing of ankle ligaments, usually characterized by: Mild pain. Minor joint instability. Mild or no swelling. Some stiffness, difficulty walking, and difficulty going up and down stairs. Little or no bruising. What did my ankle injury look like? I rolled my foot completely to the outside.  This is commonly known as an inversion … Continue reading

Feeling Bad For Myself Cookies

Peanut-butter-cookies

I’d say that I baked these for you.  Except that I didn’t. I baked them for me.  Because I’m still feeling bad for myself after yesterday’s ankle sprain. But sometimes you don’t need a whole batch of cookies.  Sometimes you just need a few cookies to make you feel better.  That’s why I developed this recipe for cookies for two (makes 6 small cookies). Or, as I called them today: feeling bad for myself cookies.  But, don’t worry.  These cookies are made without flour and butter.  So, while I might have been feeling bad for myself, I certainly didn’t feel … Continue reading

RICE

Elevation

RICE. And no I’m not talking about food. Oh how I wish I was talking about food. RICE stands for: R – Rest I – Ice C – Compression E – Elevation And it’s the course of treatment that’s recommended for an ankle sprain. That’s right.  Just one day after posting about my journey to return to running after suffering from plantar fasciitis last year, I sprained my ankle.  At first I thought it was ironic, but now it just feels like a sick joke. Just 0.6 miles into my planned 9-mile run this morning, I tripped over a tree … Continue reading
