Brunch for Bride
It seems like I’ve been so busy this summer that all of my posts have been delayed. This Friday and Saturday were no exception, because both days were jam-packed! Friday night I spent the evening cleaning my apartment and prepping brunch for the next day. My best friend, Abi, who we threw a tea-party themed bridal shower for last weekend, was having her wedding hair and makeup trial on Saturday afternoon. Her stylists live in Queens and Long Island; she lives an hour and a half into Connecticut. So, I bet you can guess where she did her trial-run….yep – … Continue reading

Ssssmoking Workout
My workout was sssssssss-moking this morning! Literally. The Starbucks below my gym had a fire this morning! This resulted in a very loud and annoying alarm sounding, followed by a herd of gym-goers exiting the building [note: do you see that some of the hard-core gym goers decided to continue working out...lol. I'm not quite there yet]. When I smelled a faint hint of smoke and heard the fire trucks coming I knew that it was going to be a while. Rather than wait for the fire to be cleared or drive home, as many people were opting to do, … Continue reading

Summer Veggies
Its no secret that I love grilling season. I want to share a grilled vegetable recipe with you that the Hubs and I enjoyed on the fourth of July. It was so easy that I almost hate to call it a ‘recipe’. But it was so delicious that I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to share it with all of you. You could easily throw this together on a week night after work and serve with grilled fish, chicken, or beef for a complete meal. RECIPE: EASY GRILLED VEGETABLES Ingredients: 1 Medium zucchini 1 Medium yellow squash 1 Large red … Continue reading

If you’re new to Shabbott’s Habits then you might not know that I’m on a quest to form 13 Healthy Habits (i.e., “Shabbott’s Habits”) during the course of a single year. By focusing on one health initiative at a time (for 28 consecutive days), I hope to progressively build healthy habits that will add up to one healthy lifestyle. So far, I’ve managed to accomplish and now maintain 5 Shabbott’s Habits: Drink More Water Move It of Lose It Breakfast of Champions Sleep Like a Baby Say Yes to Fruits and Vegetables I started my new Shabbott’s Habit – “No … Continue reading
Grilled Stuffed Peppers
Fact #1: Summer is for grilling. Fact #2: Stuffed peppers are a tasty oven-baked dinner. Fact #1 + Fact #2 = Grilled Stuffed Peppers. Fact #3: Grilled Stuffed Peppers are delicious! RECIPE: GRILLED STUFFED BELL PEPPERS Ingredients: 4-5 Large bell peppers 1 Large white onion 3 Cloves garlic, minced 1 Tbsp Olive Oil 16-20 Ounces ground turkey (could sub beef, pork, or chicken) 3/4 C Dry rice of your choice, cooked accordingly (I got just less than 1.5 cups of cooked white rice) 2 C Pasta sauce (I used tomato basil) 1/4 C Tomato paste 1 C shredded cheese (I … Continue reading
Friday Saturday
Here’s a little combined Friday and Saturday post for ya’ll (Sorry, I just watched Paula Dean and I couldn’t resist). FRIDAY: Friday morning started out with a killer oh-so-sweaty workout. I’ve started to incorporate stabilization and core into my normal lifting routine and this added exertion has me sweating bullets at the gym. I always say that I’m not there to look cute – I’m not one of those cutesy matchy-matchy workout outfits kinda gal. But I’ve seriously been a hot sweaty mess lately and I wonder what people think of me. 60 minutes elliptical Tricep/Bicep exercises Breakfast Friday morning … Continue reading
