The Good and Bad News
The Good News? After three years of being denied entry to the NYC Marathon, I finally claimed a guaranteed spot for 2012. The Bad News? My frickin’ foot and ankle still hurt following the NYC Half Marathon. I gave the foot a quick test on the treadmill this morning after not running for 2.5 weeks and after about 10 steps: pain. I immediately stopped, of course The pain is on the inside of my ankle right above the bone, where my posterior tibialis runs. I also feel as though my mechanics have changed. Like I’m running more on the inside … Continue reading

Overcoming The No Run Slump
I’m officially off the high that I got from being able to run the NYC Marathon on Saturday. If you’ve been following, then you know that I recently suffered a posterior tibial tendon injury and was rehabbing with hopes to run the race with my family. Luckily for me, it worked out in the short term. Now that the race is over, I’m slowing coming to terms with the long lasting effects of this injury. Simply put, I need to rest my foot in order for it to heal. In other words, I need to stop running. This is not … Continue reading

No Guilt Cupcakes
Cupcakes. The perfect idea, if you ask me. What’s not to love about a cute little pre-portioned, portable cake? Hmmmmm? Okay, well maybe the nutritional stats. In fact, some cupcakes have been known to pack over 500+ calories into that little wrapper. They don’t seem so cute after-all, huh? That is, unless you’re talking about these angel food cupcakes. I saw these the other day on How Sweet Eat’s and immediately knew that I wanted to make them someday. After I plugged the recipe into my calorie calculator and figured out that they were just 60 calories each, someday became … Continue reading
Three Great Online Running Tools
As I’ve started taking my running more serious this year, coming off of a nasty ankle sprain last spring, I’ve started taking advantage of the great online running resources that are available to me. Online running tools are fabulous sources of inspiration and make things like keeping track of your workouts much easier. I’m a visual person, so I love being able to visualize all of the hard work and effort that I’ve put in. So, today I thought that I would share three of my favorite online running tools so that you can take advantage of these great resources … Continue reading
Pigs Are Flying
They must be. Because this happened. After being denied every single New York Road Runner lottery that I have ever entered (Repeat: Every. Single. One.), I was recently granted admission to this year’s NYC Half-Marathon. I am extremely happy. Especially because my sister and her husband (who just recently moved to Denver, CO) were also accepted. My sister is out for REDEMPTION. She ran the race last year and is just itching to kick her time in the you-know-what. My best friend and her husband were accepted as well. That just leaves one person: Hubs. Unfortunately, while I was opening … Continue reading

Lots of Running Around
My Saturday and Sunday consisted of lots of running around – of different types. Saturday started with some scrambled eggs and salsa, served with coffee. Then the Hubs and I were out and about the entire afternoon and evening. Christmas shopping was on the to-do list and was it ever busy! I munched some drive-through chicken nuggets in the car to keep me going mid-afternoon. Saturday evening we hung out with some friends and then hit up some BBQ for dinner. Pulled pork, mac n cheese, green beans and cornbread from Smokey’s in Hamden, CT. _______________________________________________________ Current Shabbott’s Habit: Portion Contortion I … Continue reading
